Add the Member Area module to your website

Create the area where your members join, log in and manage their profile and memberships.

Available with the Essentials plan and higher. The organization section requires organization management, available with the Plus plan and higher. Searching for an organization to become a delegate member is available with the Premium plan.

The Member Area module creates a secure area on your website where your members log in to manage their relationship with your organization: become a member or renew their membership, update their profile, and view their transactions, registrations and receipts. The same module lets visitors join online.

Add the module to a page

  1. In the Website feature, open the page that will host the area, for example Member area or Become a member.
  2. Click the main zone of the page, select the Members feature, then the Member Area module.
  3. Configure the module as described below, then click Save and close.

The User Area module of the Website feature offers the same configuration.

To display the Login, Become a member and Renew my membership links at the top of every page, see Show the Login link in the website header.

Choose the display mode and membership options

The Display options section contains the following settings:

  • Display: choose Modern or Legacy. The Modern mode, enabled by default on new websites, offers a cleaner, mobile-friendly layout for the My Events, My Memberships and My Organization sections. If your website still uses the legacy mode, select Modern to take advantage of it.
  • Use Single Sign-On authentication (SSO): lets people log in with the credentials of an external system. See Single Sign-On (SSO) with Yapla.
  • Enable login link sending option: lets people log in without a password, with a link received by email. See The login link: an alternative to passwords.
  • Display registration section: lets visitors become members directly on your website.
  • View membership categories and Show description of membership categories: group your membership types under their categories and display the description of each category.
  • Allow searching of organizations in order to become a delegate member (Premium): if you manage organizations, lets a person find their organization and join it.
  • Filter the proposed membership types: select groups to limit the membership types offered in this module. This filter also restricts login to the members of these groups. It is useful when your website has several membership pages, for example one per member category.

The Opening article section displays a text above the area, for example to explain how to join. Select the Category, then the Article to display. See Create articles for your website.

Define who can log in

In the People allowed to log in section, check Members, Donors or both. An authorized donor can view their donations and download their tax receipts.

In the Anti-spam protection section, check reCAPTCHA activation to protect the form against bots. This option requires valid reCAPTCHA credentials in the website's external tools.

In the Page displayed after a member logs in section, choose the Default page of the members area, for example My profile or My memberships.

Choose the functions of the area menu

In the Activating functions of the members area section, check the functions to display in the area menu. Drag a function to change its position in the menu.

FunctionWhat the logged-in person can do
Display profile sectionView and edit their personal information.
Change my passwordChange their password.
Display memberships sectionView their membership history, download their invoices and renew their membership.
Display preferences sectionManage their preferences, such as their privacy settings.
Display transactions sectionView their transaction history.

Display events sectionView their event registrations. The Allow to see and modify registrations made by other members of the organization option is intended for organizations.
Display donations sectionView their donations and download their tax receipts.
Display directory sectionView the member directory from their area.

The edit link next to a function lets you choose the Associated groups: the function is then displayed only to the members of these groups.

Add a custom menu item

Add a link to the page of your choice to the area menu, for example a resources page reserved for members.

  1. Under the list of functions, click Add a menu item.
  2. Enter the label of the menu item.
  3. Choose the destination:
    • an internal page: a page of your website, for example a members-only page;
    • an external page: a link to another website, which opens in a new tab;
    • an object page: a tab that displays an object from the Data feature. This type of page lets members edit an object themselves.
  4. If needed, select the Associated groups to reserve the item for certain groups.
  5. Click Save.

As with functions, drag the item to move it, uncheck it to hide it without losing its configuration, or use its edit link to change its label and destination.

Good to know

  • First login: a member added by your team does not have a password yet. They create one with the Forgot password link, or log in with the login link if the option is enabled. See Manage member passwords.
  • Universal password (Plus plan and higher): to log in to a member's account on the website, for example to assist them, set a universal password in Website > [your website] > Settings, in the Advanced configuration section. It is valid for 6 hours. After that, set a new one, different from the previous one.
  • Members-only pages: to reserve other pages of the website for logged-in members, see Restrict access to a page or section of your website.
