Whether it is for your events, your newsletter, or your website, adding images is always advisable. Images capture your reader's attention, present your initiatives in a striking way and improve the SEO of your website. All the more reason to pay special attention to the integration of images on Yapla's Applications!
Here are our tips for optimizing your images on Yapla:
1- Image format
For simple images, with relatively few different colours (for example a logo), the gif or png format is ideal.
However, as soon as the image has details (a photo or screenshot for example), the jpg format is less heavy.
Why is the image format important? It has a direct impact on the loading time of your newsletter or website, which in turn influences the comfort of the reader as well as the SEO of your site (a shorter loading time = a better SEO score).
2- Image size
Avoid using images that are too large. The maximum width of newsletters is 700px for an image area and 660px for a content area. An image that is too large will be distorted and poorly viewed in emails.
For the website, Yapla directly integrates images of your events (from the Events Application), members (from the Members Application) and news (from the Website Application) into your website, to save you time. It is therefore important to remember to check if you are using a resolution, format and style that is consistent with the images already present on the website. The idea is to make sure that the site remains visually harmonious.
3- File names
For your newsletter: Avoid spaces and special characters. An image with them will not appear in Outlook and in some versions of Gmail, because they are often blocked by security and anti-spam systems.
For your website: Browsers now support images with special characters but the file management system may have problems. Moreover, it is good for your SEO to name your image with the keywords that appeal to your audience. For example, in this article, an image could have been called "optimization-images-yapla".
4- File location
In your website, when you want to add an image, you must first add it on our server so that it is available everywhere on the web. To do this you go through the image manager. A trick to ensure that the image manager is always fast and appears in no time: sort your images into the appropriate sub-folders! To do this, right-click on the general folder to create sub-folders.
5- The bonus: display an animated gif
Did you know that? You can add "gifs" in your newsletters. Just upload the gif as an image.
However, note that Microsoft Outlook will not display the animation. To avoid penalizing your subscribers using this software, make sure that the first image of your animation contains the most important elements (this is the one that will be displayed).
Need to find gifs? You can download them for free at giphy.com. It is also possible to create your own gif from your screen at screentogif.com.
