[Modules](https://support.yapla.com/en-ca/create-my-website?hsLang=en-ca#modules) # Member directory: present your members on your website ## Display your members and organizations with search, filters and a map, with public or members-only access. **Available with the Plus plan and higher.** Customizing the display with views is available with the Premium plan. The **Member Directory** module displays on your website the list of your members, your member organizations or both, with a search engine and a detail page for each one. It can also show organizations on a map. The directory draws directly from your members' files and follows your memberships: by default, only active members appear. A member whose membership ends is no longer displayed, with no action on your part. Only logged-in users can access it. You can choose the member file form, but not the search fields or the result columns, and organizations are not included. See [Add the Member Area module to your website](https://support.yapla.com/en-ca/adding-member-area-module-to-your-website#menu). - **The Member Directory module:** a complete directory, on the page of your choice, with a configurable search engine, Organizations and Members tabs, a map, and public, members-only or partial access. The rest of this article describes it. ### Prepare your data in the Members feature The directory only displays information already present in the files of your members and organizations. Prepare these elements before configuring the module. #### Make membership types eligible for the directory Only eligible membership types appear in the module's membership type filter. In the Members feature settings, edit each membership type concerned and make it eligible for the member directory. #### Choose the information displayed on the files The form selected in the module determines the information displayed on the detail page. To display only part of the information, for example without the email address, create a form reserved for the directory that contains only the fields you want, for members and for organizations, in the Members feature settings. All fields of the selected form are displayed on the detail page, including the email address or phone number. Check the form before publishing the directory, especially if it is public. #### Services, sectors and customers If you use services, sectors and customers in the Members feature, the module's **Search by services** option adds them as search criteria. #### Your members' consent A member can withdraw their consent to the display of their information in the directory, from their preferences in the Member Area. They then do not appear in the directory, regardless of the module configuration. For a consistent display, use member photos in the same square format, for example 500 × 500 px. See the [recommended dimensions](https://support.yapla.com/en-ca/best-practices-for-managing-images-on-your-website#dimensions). ### Choose who sees the directory - **Public directory:** all visitors can browse the directory without logging in. It promotes your members, for example so people can find a professional or an organization in your network. This visibility becomes a reason to join. - **Members-only directory:** only logged-in users can browse it. It lets your members find and connect with each other. - **Partially visible directory:** everyone sees the number of results of a search, but must log in to see the list. Set this up with the **Restrict access to members** option of each tab. For a members-only directory, limit the zone's visibility to logged-in users. You can add a zone on the same page reserved for users who are not logged in, presenting the benefits of membership. See [Limit the visibility of a zone](https://support.yapla.com/en-ca/settings-common-to-all-modules#visibility). ### Add the module to a page Open the page, click a zone, select the **Members** feature, then the **Member Directory** module. Preferably use a zone that takes up at least 66% of the page width. ### Configure the module The **Module Configuration** section sets the general layout: - **Search engine:** position of the search engine, horizontal (above the results), left or right. - **Number of columns for the search engine:** 1 or 2. Use 2 columns only in zones that take up 75% or 100% of the width. - **Number of lines for the search result:** number of results per page. - **Hide empty fields on the detail page:** hides the fields that are not filled in. - **Category** and **Article:** article displayed above the directory, for example to introduce it. #### Search The **Search** section defines the tools offered to visitors: - **Enable global search:** displays a single search field. Under **List of search fields**, click **Add** to choose the fields this search box looks into. - **Enable form search:** adds an advanced search link that displays one field per criterion (name, sector of activity, etc.). Choose these criteria under **List of search fields**. - **Display results by default:** displays the list as soon as the page opens, before any search. - **Search by services:** adds **Services offered by members**, **Sectors covered by members** and **Customers served by members** as criteria. ![Published member directory with the advanced search and the Organizations and Members tabs](https://support.yapla.com/hs-fs/hubfs/KB%20Sites%20web/sites-web-annuaire-en.png?width=627&name=sites-web-annuaire-en.png) #### Filters and inclusions By default, only active members and organizations appear. Check **Include inactive members** or **Include inactive organizations** to also display those whose membership has ended. ### Configure the Organizations and Members tabs Results are displayed in a Members tab, an Organizations tab or both. Each tab is configured separately. #### Members tab - **Enable the members tab**: displays the list of members. - **Show the number of members on the tab**: displays the number of results in parentheses. If you enter a **Maximum number displayed** and it is exceeded, the + symbol is displayed instead. - **Restrict access to members**: everyone sees the number of results, but must log in to see the list. - **Filter by membership types**, **Filter by membership options** and **Filter by group**: limit the directory to members with these memberships, membership options or [groups](https://support.yapla.com/en-ca/create-custom-groups?hsLang=en-ca). For example, a directory of student members. - **Search results**: columns of the results table. Click **Add** to add a column and drag the columns to reorder them. - **Sort the columns of the directory**: **Random sorting**, so no one is favoured, or **Sort on the selected column**. - Detail page: **Use a form** to generate the detail page from the selected form, or **Use a view** for a customized page (Premium plan). #### Organizations tab An organization only appears in the directory if it has an active membership and at least one member. - **Enable the organizations tab**, **Show the number of organizations on the tab**, **Restrict access to members**, filters, columns and sorting: work as in the Members tab. - **View the list of the members of the organization**: adds the list of the members linked to the organization to its detail page. - **Organization form**: form that determines the information on an organization's detail page. For a chamber of commerce, check **Restrict access to members** in the Members tab only: visitors browse the list of businesses, but must become members to see the people. ### Show organizations on a map The georeferencing tab presents organizations on a map rather than in a list. It only works for organizations. 1. Add valid Google Maps keys in your website's **Tools** tab. See [Get a key for Google Maps](https://support.yapla.com/en-ca/get-a-key-for-google-maps?hsLang=en-ca). Until the keys are added, the **Geolocation of organizations** section of the module only displays a warning message. 2. In the **Geolocation of organizations** section, check **Enable georeferencing tab**. 3. Choose the map's zoom level when it opens, from 1 (farthest) to 11 (closest). 4. If your organizations are close to each other, check **Enable marker grouping** for a clearer map. For an organization to appear on the map, at least its postal code and country must be filled in its file. #### Allow search by distance Check **Search by distance** so visitors can enter their address or postal code and only see results within a given radius. Set this radius in the **Radius for search results** field, then choose in **Search reference address** whether the distance is calculated from the members' address or the organizations' address. ### Add a member search to another page The **Directory** module displays a member search field on any page of your website, for example the home page. When a visitor runs a search, they are redirected to the page that holds the member directory, where the results are displayed. 1. Click the zone where you want the search, then choose the **Members** feature and the **Directory** module. 2. Under **Search Redirection**, choose in **Redirect Directory Page** the page of your website that holds the Member Directory module. 3. Click **Save and close**. Place this module in a full-width (100%) zone. ### What changes with the Premium plan What the directory displays does not depend on the plan: the members and organizations included, the filters and the information on the detail pages are configured the same way. With the Plus plan, you configure the directory entirely from your account, with the standard display: a results table and a detail page generated from the selected form. The Premium plan changes how the directory is displayed. Views let you customize the presentation of the results, for example as a mosaic, and of the detail page, or highlight certain membership types.
