[Forms](https://support.yapla.com/en-ca/learn-about-common-functionalities?hsLang=en-ca#forms) # Let your contacts join custom groups ## Available with Premium plan Yapla offers 2 types of groups to classify or assign rights to your contacts. "System groups" are automatically assigned according to the contact's activity (membership, event registration, donation, etc). "Custom groups" can be assigned manually, either via the member or contact's administration file, or by the contact himself, via a form. Allowing a member or a contact to choose his own groups can be used in several cases: - In a subscription form for your newsletter, the member can choose [which campaign(s) they want to receive.](https://support.yapla.com/hc/fr-ca/articles/360033605294?hsLang=en-ca) - If you use the [My Groups module](https://support.yapla.com/hc/en-ca/articles/360046793653-My-Groups-module?hsLang=en-ca), the member can choose which group(s) they want to join. - Since groups can be used to [give access to certain pages or sections of your website](https://support.yapla.com/hc/en-ca/articles/360033605294-Limit-access-to-a-web-page-based-on-custom-groups?hsLang=en-ca), you can allow your members to choose which section(s) they would like to have in their member space. ### Before you begin Make sure groups are enabled in your account and that you have [created the Custom Groups](https://support.yapla.com/hc/en-ca/articles/360034120093-Create-Custom-Groups?hsLang=en-ca) you will need. ### Creating the field The field is available in the Members and Contacts applications. When creating the field, choose the "Groups" type. ![groups-type.png](https://support.yapla.com/hubfs/Knowledge%20Base%20Import/groups-type.png) You will then be able to choose the groups that will be available as well as the number of responses that the member or contact can select (one or more). ![form-config.png](https://support.yapla.com/hubfs/Knowledge%20Base%20Import/form-config.png) Once you have created your field, all you have to do is add it to your form. ### How it works on the website Depending on the form(s) in which the field was added, members or contacts will be able to fill in their choice once or update it when renewing their membership, or even in their Member Space.
