# Create Custom Groups

## Available with Plus plan

Yapla allows you to categorize the various elements of the application, thanks to the custom groups function.

If you want to group certain members, certain events, or certain articles, you can use the categories of each application.

Custom groups allow you to do this across the entire application. Learn how to create a group and how to assign it to different elements of Yapla.

Other tutorials at the end of this article will show you the different uses of custom groups.

### Where to activate the Custom group function?

Available from the Plus plan, custom groups are available on the *Services* page of the settings of your Yapla platform:

Activate the groups by checking the box provided for this purpose.

Once the function is activated, you can access a *Groups* page made accessible in Advanced configurations.

The "Groups" menu allows you to define the groups that will be accessible through the entire application.  
The button ![mceclip3.png](https://support.yapla.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Knowledge%20Base%20Import/360098662354.png?width=125&height=34&name=360098662354.png) directs you to an additional form. A group is defined by a name and a description.

On this page, you can view the list of your custom groups, search for groups, activate and deactivate existing groups.

### Associate a member with a group

Once your custom groups have been created, you can assign them to various elements in the different Yapla applications. You can assign a group to a member, a contact, or an event.

In the *Members* application, in the "Members" menu, click on a member. In the member's menu, the “Groups” tile will allow you to define the groups associated with this member.

To do this, choose the group(s) you want, then save your selection.

### Associate a group with a membership type

Groups are also available in the *Members* *Application* for membership types and organizations ([if they are activated](https://support.yapla.com/en-ca/articles/360026390793-activate-organizations-or-families?hsLang=en-ca)). For memberships, go to Members Settings, then to "Membership types".

By clicking on a membership type, you can define the groups associated with your membership in the last section of the page, entitled *Associated groups.*

### Associate a group with an organization/family

For organizations, you can go to the *Organization* or *Family* menu, then select the organization from the list. The *Groups* page allows you to define the groups associated with the chosen organization. Don't forget to save your selection.

### Associate a group with a contact

Regarding contacts, the path is similar to that of members. In the Contacts application, in the Contacts menu, click on a contact to access its file.

Once in the form, a “Groups” tile will allow you to define the groups associated with this contact.

Don't forget to save your selection.

### Associate a group with an event

Finally, concerning the events, the path is different. Go to the Events application, then choose an event. In the event file, choose the *Categorization* menu.

It is on this page that you can define the groups associated with your events. Don't forget to save your selection.
