# Create a newsletter sign-up popup

A popup appears over a page of your website to invite visitors to subscribe to your newsletters. You choose its position, when it appears and how often it's shown. Sign-ups are added to the contact list you choose.

### Create a popup

1. Go to **Audience Building \> Popups**, then click the (+) at the top right.
2. In the **Create Popup** window, name your popup and choose the list sign-ups will be added to.
3. Click **Confirm**. The popup's setup page opens, with a preview on the right.

Choose the list carefully: the popup's sign-ups are linked to the list selected when it's created.

### Set up the display

In the **Popup Settings** section, open each option with the arrow on the right:

- **Position:** where the popup appears on the screen, for example *Center*, *Bottom Right*, *Left Drawer* or *Top Bar*.
- **Trigger:** under *Only trigger if*, choose when the popup appears: *Page Load*, *Page exit intent* (when the visitor is about to leave the page), *Scrolled*, *Time On Page* or *Clicked*. Under *Display frequency*, choose *Always*, *Once*, *Once per day*, *Once per week* or *Once per session*.
- **Overlay Tint:** the color and opacity of the background behind the popup.
- **Close Button:** the position and color of the icon that closes the popup.

To avoid annoying your visitors, avoid the *Always* frequency: a popup that appears on every page view can hurt the experience on your website.

### Edit the popup content

The popup is created with a sample template. Replace its text and image with your own content:

1. Click **Edit Popup**, above the preview.
2. Edit the title, text and image, and add blocks from the **Content** tab on the right if needed. The **Form** block contains the sign-up fields.
3. Click **Save**, then **Close** to return to the setup page.

The computer and phone icons above the preview show the popup in its desktop or mobile version. **Full Preview** shows it full screen.

### Set up the form

The **Form Settings** section works like the one for sign-up forms:

- **Audience:** shows the list in which sign-ups are stored.
- **Double opt-in:** choose *Double opt-in (Recommended)* so each new subscriber confirms their address, or *Single opt-in*.
- **Redirections:** if needed, enter the page shown after the form is submitted and the one shown after the email address is confirmed.
- **Recaptcha (Recommended):** protection against automated sign-ups. It only works with the code embedded on your own domain and must be set up by a technical person.

### Publish the popup and embed it on your website

1. Click **Publish** at the top right. Changes only appear on your website once the popup is published.
2. Then copy the code to embed on your website: 
     - **Dynamic Embed Snippet (Recommended):** the popup updates automatically after each publish.
     - **Static HTML Code (For developers):** a fixed version that doesn't update after changes.
3. Paste the code in the pages of your website where the popup should appear, or send it to the person who manages your website.

The embed codes only appear after publishing (*Available after publish*). After each change, click **Publish** again.

### Manage your popups

The **Audience Building \> Popups** page lists your popups with their status, list and statistics (views and conversions). Click **Open** to edit a popup, or the arrow to its right to **Preview**, **Copy Code Snippet**, **Rename**, **Duplicate** or **Delete** it.
