# Add a custom domain for your newsletters

## Send your newsletters from your organization's email address. This article explains how to add the address and set up your domain so your emails don't end up in spam.

By default, your newsletters are sent from a Yapla address (for example no-reply@yapla.org). To help your recipients recognize your organization right away and to improve the deliverability of your sends, use your organization's name and an email address from your own domain instead (for example info@myorganization.org).

Setup takes two steps: first you add the sender, then you authenticate its domain.

### Add a sender

1. In Yapla Newsletters, go to **Settings \> Senders**, then click **Add sender**.
2. Enter the **Default sender name (public)** (your organization's name, for example), the **Email address** and the sender's **Language**.
3. Click **Continue**.
4. A verification email is sent to that address. Open it and click the confirmation link.

Until the address is confirmed, *Verification email sent* appears to its right. Click **Resend** if you didn't receive the email. Once confirmed, the address shows **VERIFIED** and can be selected as the sender of your campaigns.

Avoid addresses from free domains such as @gmail.com or @outlook.com: these domains can't be authenticated, and emails sent on their behalf may be marked as spam or rejected.

### Authenticate the domain

Authentication tells email providers (Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, etc.) that Yapla is allowed to send emails on behalf of your domain. It protects your sender reputation and reduces the risk of your newsletters landing in spam.

You'll need to add two records to your domain's DNS zone. If you don't manage your domain name yourself, ask the person in charge of your website or hosting.

1. Go to **Settings \> Domains**. The *Domain Authenticated* column shows the status of each domain (*Authenticated* or *Unauthenticated*).
2. Click **Authenticate Domain** to the right of the domain.
3. Follow the steps shown, clicking **Continue** after each one: 
     - **DKIM record:** create a TXT record with the name and value shown.
     - **DMARC record:** create a TXT record with the name and value shown. If your domain already has a DMARC record, you don't need to change anything.
4. Click **Check records**: Yapla verifies the records and shows the domain authentication status. Click **Done**.

The **Copy instructions** link copies all the values to add. You can paste them into an email to the person who manages your domain.

DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to propagate. If the status stays *Unauthenticated* or *partially authenticated*, check that the records were copied without errors, then run the verification again with **Authenticate Domain**. Sending from a partially authenticated domain may affect the performance of your campaigns.

### Change your sender address

A new address (new domain, reorganization, etc.) can surprise your subscribers. To keep your emails from being ignored or reported:

- **Let your contacts know:** announce the change in the previous newsletter and ask them to add the new address to their contacts.
- **Keep a consistent domain:** use an address from the same domain as your website. For example, if your contacts signed up on www.myorganization.org, send your newsletters from info@myorganization.org.
- **Authenticate the new domain** before your first send.
